The relationships that unfolded over the course of the performance, the wordplay and LGBTQ expressions subtly woven into the fabric of the play, were normalized in an exceptional way—all of this while using original music by Cnaan Levkovich, played in precise attunement with the actors. The intimate venue allowed the piece to generate its own depth through language, its tension through sound, and the tears quietly wiped from the eyes of an open-mouthed audience.
I wholeheartedly recommend it, even though I feel the musical resonates with a worldview I strongly oppose. But the very fact that I oppose it proves that the work has a clear worldview—and that, for me, is what matters most, regardless of what that worldview is. All the more so when it’s given a stage in a hilarious, deeply touching musical, with beautiful music and a perfect cast.
With the Support and Funding of a Religious Admirer: An Official Album for the LGBTQ Musical
Golden Hedgehog Award–winning composer Cnaan Levkovich speaks about the person who financed the production of the album for the stage show The One. “It was always important to me that the music be another actor in the play,” he says of the new record.
×´One More Story”: A Humorous Children’s Play with Winks to Adults
The children’s play One More Story, composed of three short mini-plays, tackles challenging topics for both kids and parents in an empathetic and funny way.
The show was deftly directed by Cnaan Levkovich, who adapted the texts for the stage and incorporated original music and songs he composed himself. These elements blend beautifully into the production, pleasant to the ear and perfectly suited to this simple, humorous performance that speaks to both children and adults.
